Ballet 180’s production of Nutcracker Sweets has become a beloved holiday tradition, drawing inspiration from the classic ballet while adding a fresh, spirited twist. Each year, countless hours of collaboration go into creating the show. Behind the scenes, teaching artists, office staff, costume designers, and technicians work together to ensure every detail, step, note, and costume comes together in perfect harmony.

  Costumes and Character
A distinctive feature of Ballet 180’s Nutcracker Sweets is its thoughtful reuse of costumes curated over the years. This season, the iconic green dresses worn by the jazz and tap dancers in the Party Scene make a return. Because this scene plays such a central role in Act One, the costume team dedicates significant time to ensuring each dancer is fitted and styled perfectly. Every dress carries its own unique details; making the ensemble both cohesive and visually rich. Through careful planning and numerous fitting sessions, the staff successfully styled approximately 30 dancers for this year’s production of the Party Scene.

  Choreography in Motion
Creative collaboration also defines the choreography process. The staff at Ballet 180 School work together each year to restage segments of the show based upon how many dancers will be performing. This often requires experimentation with new formations, spacing, and transitions before finalizing the piece. Their combined effort results in a dynamic, layered, and visually interesting finished product.

  A Labor of Love
Each year’s performance is a true labor of love, reflecting the creativity, teamwork, and passion that define the studio’s community. From choreography and costumes to set coordination, lighting, and sound, every participant contributes to the success of Nutcracker Sweets. What audiences see on stage is the culmination of months of planning, rehearsing, and refining.

As the curtain rises, all involved take pride in bringing the magic of Nutcracker Sweets to life and sharing it with friends, families, and audiences throughout the holiday season.
