The crown jewel of the performing arts in Upper Darby, Summer Stage has been described by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “reach[ing] a level of professionalism and aesthetic excellence that is nothing short of miraculous.” Over the course of two to four intense weeks, the Summer Stage staff of teachers, theater professionals, and college arts majors introduce students to the fundamentals of theater. Then they hone their craft and share it with the Upper Darby community in our Summer Stage Junior and Children’s Theater programs (for grades 4-7 and 8-11, respectively). Summer Stage introduces countless young people and families to the magic of live theatre, producing seven high-quality shows over six weeks. Alumni include Emmy Award winner Tina Fey, television actors and screenwriters, Broadway performers, regional theater directors, technicians, and designers. Almost 4,000 people attend the full-length Mainstage productions each year, which have been called “Broadway in Delaware County.”
