Children’s Poetry Theater is a boutique literary atelier dedicated to nurturing young poets and creatives and to producing powerful and beautiful poetry for children to put to memory and perform. The theater aims to be a home away from home in which children can hone their voices and kindle their imaginations. We offer afterschool classes and summer camps that emphasize creativity and collaboration as we work in small groups to make magical performances for family and friends. We also offer poetry writing classes that culminate in showcases. Students gain a robust understanding of meter, verse, and form, and all through delightful means: by way of games and making and make belief.
The theater is the perfect place to find refreshment after a long day of following directions, to gain confidence and forge friendships. We believe beautiful spaces have nourishing power and strive to create a serene and stirring atmosphere for all ages. We believe in celebrations. In high expectations. In magic. In poetry. In the power of the stage—and in small classes and small spaces too, because they most easily allow for individualized impact. Additionally, we host parties and gatherings of all kinds, from book clubs to bridal showers, as well as a monthly poetry society for adults, and other community events.
